Study Languages One at a Time

Study Languages One at a TimeThe best way to study languages is to study them one at a time. The introduction of the OPOL (one person, one language) tactic is gaining popularity worldwide. It works well to begin teaching them to growing children, and each parent’s role is in teaching one child one language for the time being. If the appropriate person is the one to teach a child, like a parent to his/her child, it will be easy for the child to associate the language with the parent and adapt it in his/her daily life. Nowadays many people are getting into inter-marriages; that is two people with two different nationalities marrying each other, like an American man to an Asian woman. In case when each parent wants the child to be able to speak his/her language, then it is best to adopt the OPOL method. If the father is American he is going to speak English at all times to his child. If the mother is Asian she will be using her language when communicating to their child. That is how the one person one language works.

This strategy is flexible and adaptable for children being raised by bilingual parents, where each of them should be consistent with the individual language being used when communicating to their children. In return, it is up to the child/children which language he/she will prefer to use when communicating. The important thing is for the child/children to assimilate the languages being taught to them by their parents. This should be easy, but there is one common disadvantage in applying this method. There is the tendency of the child/children to speak in mix languages occasionally, so that they are likely to invent their own words. The minority language, which is the language native to one parent but not to the community, is usually the one that the child finds difficult to learn and apply. On the other hand, the majority language is what one parent and the community speaks, so that it becomes dominant therefore much easier for the child to apply because technically he/she is living with it.

Ultimately, children can actually become active bilinguals if the parents themselves impose firm learning and speaking of the two languages used by them. At the start children may more regularly speak what they prefer, but later on they can certainly able to speak both languages whenever they have to.

The Role of Language in the International Market

The Role of Language in the International MarketStudying languages is a vital tool in building the competitiveness of a nation. For a nation to be globally competitive and secured, the study and knowledge of foreign languages is important. Experts believe that increasing international tension and weakened economy cause the nation in need of more transparency in communication to different people. As a matter of fact, in the United States alone, the wide deficiency of knowledge in Asian and Middle Eastern languages is an immediate problem. Being a global leader it’s hard to maintain its position if it is incapable to be more conversant with the languages of foreign countries, thus hindering absolute communication.

According to a 2006 department release of education, around 200 million children attending school in China study the English language, while only twenty four thousand of its counterparts in the U.S. study the Chinese languages. The gap is significant, of which can be envisage a threatening competency.

On the deeper level, the study and knowledge of foreign languages has great impact on the international market. Several foreign countries like India, Britain, Singapore and Japan (among others) are closing the quality gap. They are offering products that are equally better and because of this, major countries like the US are forced to embrace new strategies for a more competitive market. In a competitive market where products are increasing in quality, leading countries need to be able to compete on communication and service, where language is a key in the aspect of interaction.

Globalization and technology are advancing the players in competitive markets. If major countries don’t have the language asset to employ, they leave themselves at huge disadvantage with countries where workers can manage with the knowledge of multiple languages.

The revolution of technology and communication is crucial, for it enables us to interact with people who don’t primarily speak the English language. In the international market, you are at great disadvantage if your competitor can speak the language of the customer and you don’t.

 Easy Languages

Easy LanguagesA lot of contributing factors make a language either easy or difficult to learn. Your local or inherent language is already a factor itself. It influences your ability to be able to speak another language or other languages. Basically your own language has its own grammar rules and distinctive sounds that are completely dissimilar with other languages. But it is generally a combination of two; your personal experience and the characteristics of the certain language you want to learn. It also has something to do with your learning skills. For a Filipino citizen, perhaps the easiest language he can learn and get around with fast is English. This is probably because the alphabet system and the manner it is applied in its usage are being used entirely the same way in both countries. Although Tagalog is the national language in the Philippines, and English is as it is in America and other European countries, still there is slightly any upsetting language barrier for it. Other factors can be taken account but it doesn’t make the central point here. On the other hand, for the English ones perhaps the closest language they will likely choose to learn is Spanish. Spanish is not difficult at all. You just have to focus on its rules of pronunciation and its noun and verb agreements, and then you’re all set. It is easier to read any Spanish words and say it correctly. Also, the alphabet is the same. So English and Spanish are two easy languages to learn that are both interesting and important. A great number of the Spanish vocabulary is practically familiar that it is implausible for one to never have come across such words. It is only typical that languages are being used either from one language to another or vice versa, or borrowed from a similar source.

Another thing that counts when chasing easy languages is the availability of its resources for help and reference. There are a number of good products that make reliable resources out in the market such as books, CDs and audio tools. Even the internet has lots to offer as good resources. The fact is that, English and Spanish are two of the most common languages used as a second tongue and it now appears that these two languages are everywhere and easy to get the hang of. Other easy languages include Italian, French and Chinese. Yes, Chinese is not so bad to learn as long as you begin your right foot forward.
